Recently, Famitsu reported the first week’s sales figures of Sonic Frontiers in Japan. It revealed that the game has managed to sell over 46K copies in Japan. It is the highest sales for a mainline Sonic game in the last 20 years; the last such figures were recorded at the time of Sonic Adventure 2 release, which has a record of 84K sales in Japan.
👉 Impressive start in @famitsu’s Japan software sales. With 46.2K total, it becomes the fastest selling mainline title since 2001. 👉 For the UK’s physical sales, Frontiers starts at #4, with PS5 making up 40%.#SonicNews pic.twitter.com/J8bsLysjkE — Tails’ Channel (@TailsChannel) November 17, 2022 It should be noted that over 26K sales of Sonic Frontiers are only on Nintendo Switch, which is understandable considering the console’s popularity in Japan. In contrast, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game collectively sold over 20K copies. The 46K sales figure put Sonic Frontiers in the 4th spot in the list of best-selling Sonic games in Japan, the number one spot is occupied by Sonic Adventure 1, with over 176K sales in Japan in the first week of its release, while Sonic Adventure 2 is on the second spot with 84K sales in the first week of its release. In addition, Sonic Heroes managed to sell over 50K copies in Japan in its opening week, making its way to the third spot on the list of best-selling Sonic games in Japan. Undoubtedly, the sales figure of Sonic Frontiers in Japan is promising, considering the Hedgehog has gathered more fan base in the west in recent years due to the live-action Sonic movies. It shows how much love the fans still have for a classic game and why it won the award of the most anticipated game of the year at the Tokyo Games Award. And it is just the beginning, as assured by game’s dev team; they are working on upcoming Sonic Frontiers updates and taking all the feedback positively to make the game even better. It has also been confirmed that the game will receive multiple free DLCs in the future, starting with the Monster Hunter DLC that was released shortly after the game’s release. It is exciting to see that the game will continue to receive support from the devs that will add to the fans’ experience. Sonic Frontiers is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. So, what are your thoughts about Sonic Frontiers? Have you played the game yet?
