Netflix is interested in developing new kinds of media beyond mobile games. Mobilegamer.biz reports that the firm is hiring for a variety of positions at its newly announced Los Angeles games studio, including a game director, art director, and technical director to work on “a brand-new AAA PC game.” The studio would be led by former Overwatch Executive Producer, Chacko Sonny. In addition, the ability to deal with “social systems” and “cooperative and competitive games” is also mentioned, along with experience with Unreal Engine. Similar to its mobile games, Netflix’s upcoming triple-A PC game will likely have no in-app purchases when played through a paid membership. An ideal candidate “will be able to create, ship, and maintain a game without any competing design limitations due to monetization,” according to the posting. This project has not been publicly revealed, so there is little information available at this time. For this position, however, Netflix is seeking a “creative leader of one of Netflix’s first generation of internally developed original games.” It seems like the game Netflix is working on might be something like a shooter, as the posting mentions: “experience with FPS and/or third-person shooter games is preferred” Since the beginning of the year, Netflix has made no stop in its pursuit of the gaming market. It just launched a game that could win the game of the year, Immortality, and it has six more games coming out in this month and another four in December. This certainly means that the company means business, and it would be interesting to see what’s in store for us in the coming few months.
